Spring marks time of growth
By Chris McCarthy, Vice President
Spring (noun):
a. The season of the year, occurring between winter and summer,
during which the weather becomes warmer and plants revive, extending
in the Northern Hemisphere from the vernal equinox to the summer solstice
and popularly considered to comprise March, April, and May.
b. A time of growth and renewal.
The springtime at Mr. John and Tri Boro marks a time of growth and
renewal for our organization. Since 2003, our unit service count has
grown anywhere from 40-75 percent from the beginning of March until
the end of May.
Additionally, our trailer rental count grew 33 percent in 2008 with
potential for even greater growth in 2009.
This type of growth can leave us understaffed at times and scrambling
to get the work done. Fortunately, we have a group of people here who
are committed and experienced. When we are at our busiest, you'll see
Red out doing deliveries, Jeff driving a forklift, and Dave C. crawling
underneath a trailer.
In the spring and whenever we're busy, everyone pitches in to get
the job done. No one here will ask you to do something they have not
done or would not be willing to do.
2009 will be our busiest and most successful year ever as long as
we make the commitment. Good luck and everyone keep up the good work!
Letter from the General – April 2009
By Jeff Wolfarth, General Manager
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for helping to
clean up and get ready for our guests from all over the world. I want
to include everyone that did their normal duties and kept the heat
off the rest of us that were busy cleaning and organizing.
The people that visited our facility were impressed by our building
and offices, but most of all, they were impressed by our people. Sometimes
as we all go through our day-to -day activities we take for granted
how professional we are.
Our organization has come a long way since 1964, and we couldn't
have made it this far without the help of some talented and determined
people. As the President of The Portable Sanitation Association International
(PSAI), I am honored to be part of this industry, be part of our company
and work beside you all. Your hard work and dedication makes my job
easier.
Safety tips – April 2009
By Megan Wolfarth, Training and Safety Director
There are many policies in place at Mr. John that are designed with
your safety in mind. Some examples are the safety glasses that are
required while servicing portable toilets or working in the shop, the
eyewash station in case of accidents or the fire extinguishers that
are in all of our trucks. It all is done for the safety of everyone
that works here.
With that in mind, there is one thing that is nearly impossible to
enforce – using your brain! There is no safety tool or personal protective
gear that works better than your noggin, and it shows! Luck also plays
a part, but mostly it's using your head and watching for safety hazards
before they happen.
A head-on collision can be avoided by making sure you follow right-of-way
rules and obey all road signs. A slip, trip, or fall can be prevented
by being aware of your surroundings. Backing accidents can be avoided
by using the mirrors on the trucks and walking around the vehicle before
starting to back up. These are just some examples of how to prevent
serious, or even fatal, accidents.
I know that things get busy during the summer, but taking a few extra
minutes a day to do the right thing in terms of safety can save you
months of injury and pain. Everyone that works here is a valuable part
of the Mr. John team, and for someone to get injured can be devastating
to us, as well as our families and friends. Please do your best to
stay safe and follow all of the safety rules.
