How Many Toilets Do You Need?

So you’re thinking about placing an order for porta johns, but you have some questions. More likely than not, one of those questions is how many?

If you’re hosting an event, the general rule of thumb is to provide at least one restroom per every 50 people. The larger the crowd, the more this number needs to be adjusted.

When it comes to construction sites, seasonal, and long-term rentals, each weekly serviced toilet can accommodate ten workers (assuming each worker is working 40-hour shifts).

For special events such as weddings, concerts and festivals, each porta john unit can accommodate 150 uses—leaving 4 hours before cleaning service is needed.

Before placing your order with us, don’t forget that the Americans with Disabilities Act requires that 5% of all units ordered be wheelchair accessible, or a minimum of one per order. Wheelchair accessible units and more can be viewed here.

Our Special Events Planning Guide can provide a further breakdown for all of your logistical questions when planning an event where portable restrooms will be needed. Additional questions to take into consideration include:

  • How many people will be attending my event?
  • Will there be any guests with special needs?
  • How long will my event be?
  • Will there be alcohol consumption? The consumption of food, liquids, beer and other alcoholic beverages will increase usage by 30-40%.
